CONCEALED BEAUTY #02/2023

Why Do We Think We Are Not Photogenic?

Have you ever looked at a photo of yourself and thought, "I look terrible!"? You're not alone. Many people feel self-conscious about their appearance in photographs, and this feeling has become even more pronounced with the rise of social media and the constant pressure to present a perfect image of oneself online. But why do we think we are not photogenic? There are several reasons for this phenomenon, and understanding them can help us overcome our insecurities and learn to appreciate ourselves in photographs.

  1. We Don't See Ourselves Right

One reason why we might think we are not photogenic is that we don't see ourselves accurately. We are used to seeing our reflection in the mirror, which presents a reversed image of ourselves. This means that we are not used to seeing ourselves from the angle that a camera captures us. As a result, we may be surprised or even dismayed by how we look in photographs.

  1. We Don't Spend Real Time in Front of the Mirror

Another reason why we may not feel photogenic is that we don't spend enough time looking at ourselves in the mirror. Many of us rush through our morning routine, barely glancing at ourselves before heading out the door. But if we take the time to study our features and appreciate our unique qualities, we may feel more confident in front of the camera.

  1. We Don't See Ourselves in Action

We spend a lot of time in the office or other settings where we are not moving around or engaging in physical activity. This means that we may not be aware of how we look when we are in motion or speaking. When we see ourselves in photographs, we may be surprised by the expressions or postures that we have unconsciously adopted.

  1. We Don't Know Who We Want to Be

Finally, many of us may not feel photogenic because we don't know who we want to be. We may criticize others for being superficial or obsessed with their appearance, but at the same time, we may not have a clear sense of our own identity or values. When we take the time to reflect on our goals and aspirations, we can develop a stronger sense of self and feel more confident in front of the camera.

Conclusion Feeling photogenic is not just about looking good in photos. It's about feeling confident and comfortable in our own skin, no matter how we are captured by the camera. By understanding the reasons why we may not feel photogenic, we can take steps to improve our self-image and embrace our unique beauty. Whether we are posing for a professional headshot or taking a selfie with friends, we can learn to appreciate ourselves and feel proud of who we are.
